School feeding is recognised as a critical food security, human capital, and food system intervention. It is the biggest safety net program with 388 million children receiving school meals. There has been an exponential growth over the last decade, 65.4 million children receive school feeding in Africa, an increase from 38.4 million in 2013. School Meals Coalition was established during the 2021 UN Food System Summit, 67 countries have signed the Declaration of Commitment to the School Meals Coalition. As governments develop school feeding interventions, it is important to have policy and programme relevant evidence, which is focus of this book.These case studies demonstrate a deliberate move towards local sourcing and production and a robust regulatory framework as well as financial reporting mechanisms. The Nigerian National School Feeding Program was embedded in the National Social Protection Policy, as well as policies in education, food and nutrition.The book has been edited by global leaders in school feeding research and programming.
