Why I Believe

"How do I fit in? I struggle to find deeper meaning in my life, yet I am so uncomfortable around those with compelling spiritual conversions or a bible verse on the tip of their tongues, that's just not me." All too often, we are reluctant to delve deeper into our faith journey because of the model of Christianity we have been exposed to, one to which we don't measure up. I have come to believe that many of us don't have one definable moment of epiphany, rather a series of life-events that draw us closer and closer to God. Ours is not a moment in time, instead it is a lifetime of moments where we recognize His undeniable presence. The seemingly routine parts of our lives, both the triumphs and the failures, all bear the fingerprints of a loving God. Our greatest joys, as well as our deepest pain, can all be seen through the prism of His Son who understands fully our human condition. Jesus met the people of Judea where they were, the only litmus test was if they believed in Him and asked Him into their hearts. It is not so much a question of where one starts, it is simply an imperative that we do and allow God to enrich our lives more each day. Our family, jobs and outside activities, as well as our church involvement, all become conduits of Grace enabling us to love and trust Him more as we move further on our Christian walk. When we begin to recognize that, we can't help modeling Christian behavior and sharing our faith with those around us. Why I Believe gives us a glimpse of how God works through our everyday life events to draw us closer to him. Things seemingly unrelated, when taken in the context of scripture, unveil a deeper meaning to our struggles and accomplishments as well as awaken within us a sense of gratitude and appreciation. The book transitions through the various stepping stones of the author's faith journey, not intended to be some model of Christian behavior, but rather a means to stimulate the reader's reflection on their own experiences and personal relationship with a loving Creator.
