Is "more Europe" needed to overcome the euro crisis? Under what conditions is a further harmonization of national policies within the European Economic and Monetary Union institutionally and socially feasible? Does the European crisis policy run contrary to the development of a European political culture? To answer these questions, the enforceability of an enhanced policy harmonization within the EU is examined. Since the acceptance of structural policy changes in the population plays a central role in addition to its institutional implementation, the development of the political culture in Europe is a further focal point of the analysis. Here the author is devoted to questions of democratic legitimacy, European identity and their importance for a successful implementation of the recommended measures for the harmonization of national policies.
