Beskrivelse

This book offers a detailed examination of the absorption of Soviet emigrants in Israel during the years 1967 to 1985. Factors that account for these immigrants' successful economic absorption are included as well as a study of their social and cultural absorption. The book proposes that the value system to which the Soviet immigrants were exposed in the Soviet Union facilitated successful economic absorption in Israel but constitute a source of difficulty with regard to other aspects of absorption. A key concept in the examination of the values which Soviet Jews acquired through socialization of the Soviet Union is that of the Soviet Man. This book attempts to demonstrate how the characteristics of the Soviet Man manifest themselves in various aspects of immigrant's life in Israel.
