Though born into a Christian family, Ramsey Carter Jackson grows up feeling more pain and fear than love. Sexually abused by a neighbor and often beaten by his angry, drunken father, Ramsey has little reason to believe that he deserves God's love-or that God would even give it to him.
So, despite knowing deep in his heart the right way to live, Ramsey sets off on a path of willful debauchery, choosing to drown his pain in liquor and look for love in between the sheets.
