The Spanish dance terms defined and described in this reference include basic positions, movements, movement sequences, and directions; types of movement; movement qualities; dances; dance genres; musical terms; types of people associated with the dance; percussion and vocal sounds that accompany dance; and precepts governing the dance. Most of the entries fall into one of four categories: terms with general application in Spanish dance, those associated with "escuela bolera," regional dance terms, and flamenco dance terms.
