The Girl and the Rainbow! is a children's picture book that shares the feelings and thoughts of a ten year old girl named Cordelia. This story book focuses on the concerns of young Cordelia being bullied. Cordelia had to confront the effect of being bullied as a youngster and it was devastating. The story emphasizes on the perseverance of young Cordelia and the believing in oneself despite all the hurtful names Cordelia had endured. Cordelia believed in herself and therefore she excelled and reached the many rainbows and dreams. Cordelia managed to go through it all with her own inner strength. Her passion for art and acting helped her to be focused to what really mattered and rise above it. Cordelia sharing her diary from when she was 10 is of significant. She placed her thoughts and expressed them through art to demonstrate the reality of the situation. She may have had suffered from the many unpleasant name calling and bullying by her friends and some of her siblings. Cordelia was being teased by her peers at school. She became sensitive to the point that she withdrew and wanted to be in nature where she drew her strength back. Cordelia felt the pain of being different. She suffered, yet she still realized that she is ok after all. Bullying is behaving unkindly to another child. Bullying over and over again has negative consequences. Bullying is real and some young girls are being treated horribly and bullied by other girls. Those young girls that behave in a mean way by bullying their peers need to be guided and mentored on how to behave towards one anther with kindness. Bullying is occurring and happening in the young girls life as early as kindergarten. It is important to learn the root cause of this problem. Bullying has harmful effect on the young girl to have to deal with it. Bullying is occurring everyday and everywhere. Therefore, bullying need to be addressed properly. Cordelia was ridiculed for her thin frame and her own unique sense of style and demeanor. She has been teased to the point that it was painful. Cordelia was fortunate though to be attracted to ways to express herself positively and get encouragement. Cordelia was a strong 10 year old girl to have the strength to be mindful and had the outlets of being creative. Bullying and teasing usually happens while children are interacting with their peers. It happens while at school or in a neighborhood. Unfortunately bullying is a common experience for some children. Some children may start as making fun and teasing then it happens over and over. However, the consequences on the bullied child may be devastating. The objective of Cordelia's story is to share one child's story of being bullied, and how positive outcomes comes from sharing and talking about it. The story gives children the opportunity to learn about their strengths and their awareness of the interaction process with each other. Children best learn when they are involved in the learning process. For this to happen, helping, guiding and facilitating the possibilities for the child are essential by preparing a safe environment where they may be able to feel safe.The story in many ways is whimsical! It is about life and events that take place at times. Learning is a fun process for the absorbent mind of the child. Learning to be responsible to ones self and others is needed in the path of the child's development. The process of this is cognitively stimulating and it is imperative for the overall healthy development of the child. The story is informative and educational. The information is drawn and presented based on concrete knowledge and learning processes. Listening to one child's story helps her/him to overcome any concerns. Bullying is not funny.
