"The Candy House" is a marvelous novel about memory and technology from the Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jennifer Egan.

 

The brilliant genius Bix Bouton is the man behind the global tech firm Mandala and is regarded as one of the” tech demi-gods” who is known all over the world. Bix is forty years old, dad to four kids, impatient and desperate to find the next” new thing”. Then he meets a Columbia professor who is experimenting with downloading or "externalizing" memory. A couple of years later Bix has launched his new technology "Own Your Unconscious", which allows you to access your whole memory and share your memories in exchange of the access to the memories of others. The technology has seduced thousands and suddenly memory is a kind of currency.
