The sniper had thought to himself: If I shot the Federal Nigerian Commander-in-Chief, General Yakubu Gowon, then the war would be over, and innocent women and children would no longer be killed. Defying odds, lying in wait for days in jungles crawling with all kinds of critter crawlers, Biafran sniper Ahams Agams stalked the Nigerian head of state; trailing him from Enugu to Port-Harcourt. His one-day, one-sniped-officer quota was about to escalate to include the Nigerian head honcho. All he needed was just one opening. He had General Gowon in his sights as he got out of his plane at the Port-Harcourt airport. The crosshairs centered on Gowon's jaw when he squeezed the trigger.
