Symmetric designs are everywhere you look, from tiled floors, up the wallpaper, and into patterned ceilings. But how are such patterns formed? Through the stencil art of Wil Stegenga and the research of Dave Eisenstadter, readers and design aficionados alike can unlock the mathematical mystery behind these patterns. Dave Eisenstadter studied the mathematics of repeating patterns at Bard College while pursuing a degree in English and math. Currently, he lives in New Hampshire, where he works as an arts reporter for the Monadnock Ledger-Transcript in Peterborough and an editor for Pathway Book Service in Gilsum.
