Open water swimmer Stanley Ulijaszek contracted Weil's Disease in 2021 and this is his personal account of his experience, though septic shock and near-death to recovery, and back to swimming in open water again. Reading about the disease in medical texts and online is one thing, experiencing it is another. Weil's disease is so rare, but it sits in the back of every open water swimmers mind. This volume describes the delirium and distress that the disease creates in the sufferer, engages with the incredible medical crew that brought Stanley back so that he could swim another day, and describes the risks associated with catching it.
