Beskrivelse

Preparing Teachers to Educate Whole Students offers a wide-ranging comparative account of how innovative professional development programs across the globe guide and support teachers in their efforts to promote cognitive and socio-emotional growth in their students. The book focuses on holistic educational outcomes in an effort to better serve students in the twenty-first century and examines seven programs in all--in Chile, China, Colombia, India, Mexico, the United States, and Singapore.

The book offers a unique and helpful contribution to our understanding of fundamental educational goals and the professional development programs for teachers that aim to further those goals.

"At a time of increasing interest in socio-emotional learning and twenty-first century skills, it's helpful to understand how other countries are preparing teachers for these new challenges. The innovative programs highlighted in this book illustrate that good professional development can be tailored to context in very productive ways."

--Susan Fuhrman, president emerita, Teacher's College, Columbia University

"Preparing Teachers to Educate Whole Students shows that the future of twenty-first century teaching is already here. With many examples of promising approaches to teacher development from around the world, the book demonstrates how we can become better at getting good ideas out of schools and into the education system--rather than keeping education systems busy pushing traditional ideas into schools."

--Andreas Schleicher, special advisor on education policy to the secretary-general, and director for education and skills, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development
