The place - for having identity, charge, character, and symbolic fervor - is full of symbolism, established by elements (material or immaterial) that evoke innumerable meanings to the experienced territorial base. The place itself is a symbol of affection, well-wishfulness, satisfaction, happiness, and congeniality. The symbolic character of places establishes connections decoding and translating its past and connecting it to the present. Considering the premise that places and symbols acquire deep meaning through emotional ties woven over time, reconciling, understanding and decoding the past and present symbols of Ilha de Guaratiba are the tasks to be undertaken by us in this book.
