Physics is the branch of natural science that studies the nature and properties of matter and energy.

The term 'physics' is derived from the Ancient Greek word, i.e. 'phusik¿' meaning knowledge of nature.

Mechanics science is concerned with the motion of bodies under the action of forces, including the particular case in which a body remains at rest.
