This collection of essays addresses the perceptions of both the author and the reader. It looks at Greene's conversion to Catholicism, his subsequent struggles, and the various twists and turns that his life followed. It looks at how all of these storms and struggles affected his faith and the degree to which they influenced his work. On the other hand, these essays also take a fresh look at how Greene has been read over the years, looking at the many misperceptions and trying to correct them with new and more accurate information.
