The Oh Aces club and its members, the Aces, had accepted Ren with unconditional love, despite his facial disfigurement. Just as the spirit Night Cloud had intended, the club became a social oasis of life-saving support for a suicidal man sequestered from the world in self-isolation. However, trouble surfaces when Andy, the club's gifted, but lonely psychic, falls in love with Ren. In his zeal to help Ren come to terms with his disfigurement and his estrangement from his dying mother, Andy goes overboard, and tension between the two men reaches the boiling point. Nevertheless, when Andy is attacked by a gang-influenced youth on the dark street outside the club, it is Ren who saves his life. In the process of doing so Ren discovers the good and compassionate man he is beneath his disfigured appearance and is hailed a hero by the Aces. Having discovered new friends, a loving partner in Gust, and, most important of all, himself, Ren bids a tearful goodbye to Night Cloud and decides his life is worth living after all.
