Scott Joplin (1868 - 1917) war ein US amerikanischer Komponist und Pianist. Aufgrund der Berühmtheit, die er für seine Ragtime-Kompositionen erlangte, wurde er als "King of Ragtime" bezeichnet. Während seiner Karriere schrieb er über 40 Original-Ragtime-Stücke, ein Ragtime-Ballett und zwei Opern. Eines seiner Stücke, der "Maple Leaf Rag", wurde zum ersten und einflussreichsten Hit des Genres und später als Inbegriff des Rags anerkannt (aus wikipedia).

Scott Joplin (1868 - 1917) was an US American composer and pianist. Because of his famouse Ragtime Hits he was dubbed the "King of Ragtime". During his career, he wrote over 40 original ragtime pieces, one ragtime ballet, and two operas. One of his first and most popular pieces, the "Maple Leaf Rag", became the genre's first and most influential hit, later being recognized as the quintessential rag (from wikipedia).
