During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, Britain's urban landscape was dramatically and irrevocably changed by the Industrial Revolution. Although little more than a market town in the Middle Ages, Manchester developed to become the nation's 'cotton capital' and the world's first truly industrial city. First printed in 1793, this highly detailed Georgian map captures the town in the midst of that transformation.
