This book presents two of the most famous Old English battle poems in the original language with translations and notes. 'The Battle of Maldon' depicts the last stand of young Ealdorman Byrhtnoth and his warriors against Viking raiders in 991; 'Brunnanburh' commemorates King Athelstan's great victory over a coalition of Vikings and Scots in 937.
