Beskrivelse
Magnetic materials have many interesting and important uses. This book discusses the subject of magnetism and magnetic materials at a level suitable for undergraduates studying materials science, physics or engineering. It gives a brief introduction to the fundamental ideas in magnetism, and then explains the classification of materials according to their magnetic properties. Each of the main classes of materials is discussed in detail. The book then concentrates on materials that are useful for practical applications, namely, those that are strongly magnetic. The properties which determine the usefulness of these materials are discussed, as well as methods of determining these properties experimentally. The final chapter describes materials according to their applications, such as materials for transformer cores or permanent magnets, and it concludes with a discussion of magnetic materials used in information storage. The book includes a set of worked examples, and a set of test questions.
