Living for Appearances, written by the Brothers Mayhew, is a satirical novel published in 1851. The book, which follows the travails of two brothers who aspire to rise in Victorian society, pokes fun at the social climbers of the era. Although it was not a great commercial success at the time, it is now recognized as an important work of social commentary.
