Beskrivelse

The following course curriculum begins to unfold and describe the "true" nature of behavior, whether from a normal perspective or beginning to understand how and why abnormal behavior begins. Additionally, our attempt is to educate professionals to recognize signals and signs associated with mental illness or even others under the influence of substance consumed, smoked or inhaled. We do not suggest the provided material is intended to diagnose mental illness by no means at all. Our hope is providing information which allows professionals to cue into abnormality commonly approached and use different tools to help a person in crises. Overall, law enforcement becomes the primary first responders to most incidents yet have limited training to recognize to adequately handle the situation. Officers are educated and schooled (trained) to contain and control, using direct orders, and anticipating instantaneous conformity and compliance. Officers do not have the appropriate or adequate training to recognize or deal with the intellectually disordered (mentally ill). Based on this, they are not receptive of or responsive to the fact that, authoritative presence has taken (easily) causes an intellectually disordered (mentally ill) individual to become defensive. Officers are educated and schooled in the mindset of stop, freeze, and do not move; devoid of any other alternative or option left (no way out) to or for the subject. Often progressing towards, "do as I say or else." Based on their collaborative experience, the authors of this curriculum truly deem that, with additional training, a perceived non-compliant individual, may actually be an intellectually disordered (mentally ill) individual necessitating (requiring) a different approach, patience, empathy, understanding, and most importantly, particular words that the subject can relate too. In order to achieve this, it is essential that the officers are trained in becoming familiar with and recognizing the difference amid, a) normal behavior, and b) abnormal behavior. The community has little faith and trust in law enforcement's skills and yet despite the conflict; law enforcement continues confronting perilous situations day in and day out. Let's get real. The world is in a social war. Social media and the news highlight tragic incidents gone wrong at the hands of police.Secondly, we begin discussing cultural sensitivity and multicultural issues prevalent in today's policing. Before we get into the deep conversation we would like to take a short pause and address a serious social issue we feel is prevalent and worthy of in-depth discussion. What to do when you get stopped by the police.....
