Beskrivelse

This is an action novel which occurs during the late nineteenth century, 1890 to be exact. The time period before our present term Coast Guard came into being. It's a story of a young man who once had been a fireman in a small town known as New Bern, North Carolina. After death takes his wife and only son, decides to relocate to an area he loved to fish with his father at -- Beaufort, North Carolina, a small fishing village bordering on the deep water inlet shared by another growing town, Morehead, North Carolina. He finds himself volunteering to serve as a rescuer with a newly activated Life-saving station at Cape Lookout. There he makes friends and involves himself with the local islanders, some whose families had lived on the islands for generations. This novel gives a glimpse of these brave men who risked their lives to save others and their techniques on how they accomplished their rescues. The story takes place in one of the coldest months of the year, January, and in this case the storm is unusually horrific.
