Beskrivelse
An extraordinary work at the interface between manuscript and book printing: Around 1490 the publisher Anthoine VErard had a precious and richly illustrated hand-written for the French king. At this time the book printing in Paris was already in full bloom, but the traditional book production is given priority here.
In the center is the handbook of the hour, which the Paris publisher VErard had made for King Charles VIII. The Prayer Book is distinguished above all by its imagery: ongoing, painted narrations frame all the texts, and with their explanatory lines like the forerunner of the comic strips. A second, but unfinished, handwriting by the artist, which had recently appeared, seems to be related to the royal prayer book. How the two manuscripts could interact and be connected with the king is examined as well as the question of the artistic context in which the painter is to be settled.
