I Believe For Every Drop of Rain That Falls Someone Drowns

Theo Cinder was a man so full of unbridled rage that to cross his path was to become the unwitting target of his acidic tongue and stinging barbs. No one was immune from his withering criticism and snarling temperament; he was a master at discerning the most tender vulnerabilities of other human beings. Indeed his bilious nature and blistering tongue would make Dickens' Scrooge look like a milquetoast. Only his estranged long term partner Trevor was able to see the wounded child within Theo and understand the source and depth of his rage at the universe, which exploded to the surface after they separated. When Theo's car broke down and is left with his mechanic he reluctantly decided to take a bus home. However, he soon realized the bus had no other passengers nor even a driver when it lurched into motion. The odd, unfashionably dressed gentleman who had boarded the bus with him was soon transformed into an animated, human silhouette, a professorial "creature of no color" who called himself "Charlie". Charlie informed Theophilos Cinder that he will not be let off the bus until he completed a mandatory course in Life 101 consisting of a journey through the painful events in his past that contributed to his becoming a human cactus.
