The Land is a place of magick and mystery, and as Erinn's time on the High Seat continues, so does the Land's prosperity. As the book opens, the Land is dressed in mourning white for a departed loved one. Arthfael's children are strong and thriving, enough to receive their names. The High Lord calls for a Tournament of Skills again this Summer, and every District is encouraged to send representatives to participate in the arena.

The Goddess calls for new citizens to arrive, and the High Lord is obliged to defend the Port City against invading forces from the Outworld. Could it be time to call for the Dragon once more? The Baroness comes to call, at the invitation of the High Lord. What does her arrival portend?

Calla and Lillith continue to mature and develop, their martial skills under the guidance of the Grandfather, Drake.
