Hills to Climb

HILLS TO CLIMB is the story of three women thrust into new roles when their husbands are drafted into military service as World War II rages in distant places. Although America's homeland escaped the hostilities, those left to guard the home front fought a different battle. Women, with children to rear, households to maintain, mounting shortages to overcome as the war progressed, reeled under the stress and loneliness. Ellen Parker, the heroine, along with her two friends, Evelyn and Jane, struggle to provide for their children, attempting to keep life as normal as possible while the war interrupts their lives. Sadness, despair, and joy, at times, threads throughout the four years in the early l940s. Add a chapter of intrigue as Ellen, working at the aircraft factory, becomes the target of a mystery. The women rise to new and bitter challenges as they interact with the few men left by deferment to guide the home front. Not the least of these challenges is romance.
