Going it Alone: A Guide for Solo Mums in the UK

Around a  thousand single women in the UK decide to start a family using fertility treatment and assisted conception every year in the UK, and many more by adoption. 

This book considers the choices available in the UK and the consequences for these women and their children, from the options in treatment, the impact on their lives and relationships, and  the consequences for the children's development. 

Emily Engel has four years' experience of undergoing fertility treatment, twenty-some years experience of raising a donor conceived child on her own, and twenty five years' experience of taking part in support activities with other solo mums - writing, researching and communicating across the Atlantic and the European continent about the issue that affect women who choose single motherhood.  She was on the Steering Group of the Donor Conception Network (DCN) for 15 years and co-ordinated the service to the single women in the Network.
