"Wisdom means knowledge that is so perfect it directs the will to obey God's commands" (Catholic Dictionary). That is why it is the first of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. When Solomon succeeded his father, King David, as the king of Israel and Judah, he asked God for wisdom (1 Kings 3:6-9). God was so very pleased with King Solomon's sensible request that he gave him what he asked for, as well as what he didn't ask for but probably desired - wealth, honour and long life (1 Kings 3:10-14). Consequently, this first devotional in the 'Catholic Bible Books Devotional Series' rightly begins with the topic of WISDOM because, based on its definition and God's pleasure with King Solomon's request, wisdom is the gift that will truly help us grow, mature and reach perfection as our Heavenly Father. This devotional explores wisdom in key areas of our daily lives - food, finances, friendships, spirituality, speech, health, sexuality, death. So, I invite you to faithfully make this 91-day journey in acquiring wisdom and, like King Solomon, God will grant you wisdom as well as the desires of your heart.
