My name is Paula Hamilon. I'm an English teacher at a lovely high school here in Bonnie Scotland's capital city, Edinburgh. I live a pretty ordinary (but joyful!) life. That is, until I embarrassingly faint in front of one of my fourth-year classes because of some really painful headaches I'd been having. At the hospital, I'm told I have a brain tumour. My family are all really dramatic about it, but I just laugh it off, really. Because what's life if we can't laugh at it, eh?
Anyway, I decided that I should live life to the fullest, you know? Just in case. One of the things I really want to do is a little bit silly - I've always wanted to sing in a rock band. And as chance would have it, my brother-in-law's band are looking for someone! What I didn't know, however, is that they were on the verge of becoming really famous, and they need someone who's a little more talented than a young woman who just wants to sing silly songs and can barely play guitar... awkward.
This is the story of how I chose to live what might be my final days, and how that impacts the people around me. Including a young boy in one of my classes who really, really needs some help...From the author of Which Way is North?, and the writer/producer of the Short Stories by Chris Morris podcast, Damselfly is Chris Morris' debut novel. It's a moving account of a young woman's desire to turn a dire situation into something positive.
