Beskrivelse

The Western Establishment has abandoned its Judaeo-Christian roots and adopted an increasingly atheistic stance. Some members of this elite openly ridicule any who believe that life was not due to random processes. Are they right? Is it really that stupid to believe that life might have been the result of intelligent initiation, or is such belief the only rational response to the data?

Dr Orson Wedgwood, scientist and author, explores the subject of the origin of life and DNA to discover what the truth really is. First he looks at the acrimonious history of the relationship between science and faith which started long before his own family, the Wedgwoods, argued against Charles Darwin across the dinner table. He shows the elite's contempt for people of faith may not be objective since they are guilty of perpetuating a lie through proven "Fake News."

Next, drawing on his directly relevant scientific expertise, he presents the evidence for and against random processes being the cause of the appearance of life and the remarkable DNA code. This is done in a way that should be accessible to anyone with a basic high school level education.

Lastly he asks the question whether there is any evidence that intelligence could have initiated life. This is not about Intelligent Design versus Darwinian evolution. It is about the origin of the very first living system, and how we got from lifeless basic chemicals to LUCA (last universal common ancestor).

Whilst the author is a Christian, and he has a few words for his co-believers at the end of the book, in general this subject offers no clues as to the nature of any potential intelligent "initiator." As a result DNA: the elephant in the lab, can be enjoyed by anyone of any faith, or no faith, who is curious about the origin of life.
