"Dead Souls" by Nikolai Gogol is a classic Russian novel that offers a satirical and comedic portrayal of 19th-century Russian society. Set in the vast expanses of rural Russia, the novel follows the exploits of its protagonist, Pavel Ivanovich Chichikov, a charming and enigmatic nobleman who embarks on a peculiar and ambitious scheme.Chichikov's plan is to acquire "dead souls," or the names of deceased serfs, from landowners in order to purchase them from the government and use them as collateral to secure a loan.
