Beskrivelse
The 7th and 8th seasons of excavations at the site of ancient Mendes (modern Tell el-Ruba) in the eastern central Delta took place during the summers of 1979 and 1980. Excavation revealed that the ridge chosen for excavation was probably built up by purposeful dumping of debris--of mixed Third Intermediate Period and Dynasty XXVI date--during the second half of the 6th century B.C. The preliminary report of these excavations contains chapters on stratigraphy and architecture, pottery, Greek pottery, the various small finds, and a Third Intermediate Period relief fragment.
