A great western novel of action and courage after Texas wins independence. Sam Houston needs a strong man to lead settlers to northern Texas. They establish a settlement along the banks of the Bosque River to help stop the depredations of the roving warlike Comanche. President Houston summons Luther Brant, Sergeant of the Rangers, to build a trading post and fort at the base of Chalk Mountain. Many obstacles stand in Brant's way as he faces Santa Anna's right hand man, Colonel Vaca and his Mexican Cavalry.
