All the Ways We Lied

Three sisters--Kohar, Lucine, and Azad--have long struggled in the grip of their mother, Takouhi, an indomitable woman who is driven by her narcissism and crippled with a lifelong depression that intensifies over time. Takouhi has survived one abusive marriage that she managed to escape with her two daughters and has settled into a more peaceful marriage with a man who she considers her savior, Gabriel. He is the tether to her kite.

The oldest daughter, Kohar, is happily married to Jonathan, yet grapples with the disappointment of infertility while coping with her mother's complicated attachment to her.

The middle child, Lucine, finds herself in a loveless marriage and is haunted by the memories of her estranged father.

Azad, the youngest and the "golden" child of her mother's second marriage to Gabriel, is directionless, finding little purpose in her life as she moves from one failed relationship to the next.

All three sisters, on the brink of unraveling, are suddenly contending with Gabriel's terminal illness and the reality of their mother's self-destruction in the wake of his death. After his passing, she becomes the victim of a scam and is lured to a Lom?, Togo, by a young man who she impulsively marries. Takouhi is apprehended by the security at the airport and questioned about her new "husband," discovering the truth of his motives. She calls up her Kohar, asking for her come rescue her. A new mother now, Kohar realizes she cannot spend her life saving her mother. Inevitably, Takouhi is released a few days later and reflects on her relationship with her daughters, and faces the reality of living her new life independently.
