"All Quiet on the Western Front" by Erich Maria Remarque is one the greatest war novels of all time.
Erich Maria Remarque’s "All Quiet on the Western Front" is a classic novel from 1928 and one of the best to describe the horrors of war. In the novel we follow the young German soldier Paul Baumer in the World War I. At first, he is enthusiastic to finally fight for his country but then he meets the nightmares of death and terrors in the trenches. As the story unfolds the book describes the soldiers’ physical and mental traumas from the war.
