A Degree in a Book

A Degree in a Book aims to cover all the main principles of a subject that would typically be found in a degree course. Here, the principles of electrical and mechanical engineering are followed by the elements of engineering applications, along with a description of electrical engineering and of the application of this field to mechanical engineering. The separate ages of engineering are divided into empirical and scientific periods, then the range of possibilities provided by discovery, analysis, invention and application are covered. A final section relates the mechanical and electrical fields of applied engineering to the challenges of the future. This includes environmental responsibility and the value of an engineer in a holistic sense rather than as an isolated individual or as a team member.
