Beskrivelse
In 1992, a few weeks after Hurricane Andrew hits South Florida, a man and his infant daughter crash their car into a Miami canal. The father dies, but the baby's body is never found. Twenty-three years later the case is opened after several claimed sightings. The police department assigns the case to Cuban-American detective Mar a Duquesne--the author here makes a literary nod to Cuban mystery writer Leonardo Padura and his fictional detective Mario Conde--but Mar a has very few clues to start the investigation. Is it possible that the girl has not died? Or is it simply the persistence of a desperate mother who will not accept the death of her daughter? Through this police detective mystery, author Uva de Arag n provides a multifaceted portrait of the Latino communities of Miami and Hialeah, with touches of Tampa, Cuba, Puerto Rico and New York.
