This is not one more life of John Wesley, but a portrait of the man himself. So often, John Wesley has been misrepresented as austere, despotic, and unlovable. In this book the real man emerges--a man who possesses both strength and attractiveness, and one whose easy natural charm was felt by friend and critic alike. This is the first time such an intimately personal study has been attempted, and Dr. Maldwyn Edwards is well qualified for the task, having already published six books of major importance on various aspects of the history of Methodism. He is on the editorial board of the projected standard history of Methodism and was invited to write the essay on John Wesley for the first volume. He is one of twelve Fellows of Methodist History of the International Methodist Historical Society. This is a study, therefore, by a recognized authority on Methodism, but written with an ease of style that will hold the attention of all who read it.
