My Positive Face of Disfigurement

David was born with a very rare medical condition known as a Vascular Anomaly causing a severe disfigurement to the right side of his head, face, eye and mouth. As a child growing up and through into his teenage years he had to cope with rudeness of people who were constantly staring, of verbal abuse and worst of all, intimidation. Life was hard for him and he felt lost and lonely. Several attempts at chatting up girls ended by him giving up all hope of ever meeting someone special, someone who would care for him and to treat him as a normal human being, but then just by fate he happened to go to a party and came across that special someone. With the help and love of his very dear wife, family, friends and a wonderful charity called "Changing Faces" he began to gain a confidence within himself, a strength that gave him the ability to be positive and stand out from the crowd. This new found confidence enabled him to go out giving talks about his life, of being involved in media campaigns, and by telling others of how this extraordinary organisation helps people like himself to gain self-esteem. This is a true story, a story of abuse, sadness, love and happiness, it's also a story that tells of a life that he once never imagined would ever happen.
