Beskrivelse
Linda Alice Dewey seems to have a predilection for picking the wrong kinds of friends. They are all perfectly lovely people. It's just - it's just - THAT THEY ARE DEAD. It's a problem . . . In this latest in her series of supernatural adventures, Dewey comes into contact with a ghost named Jacobs - the spirit of a runaway slave who was brutally murdered during the Civil War. This is actually quite a gripping story. We experience, in the ghost's own words, what it was like to be a slave, a fugitive and a vagrant in nineteenth-century America. After Jacobs' murder, he indulges in stereotypical ghost behaviour: hanging out with other spirits, playing tricks on people and wandering aimlessly throughout America. Eventually, he turns his attention to helping the living by influencing their thoughts telepathically and, ultimately, attaching himself to Dewey and her son. Dewey helps Jacobs 'cross over' and find the peace and freedom that had been denied to him in life and for the first hundred years after his death.
