After twenty-five centuries, Buddhism continues to inspire individuals from diverse spheres of society, including secular and nonreligious. Stephen Batchelor has taken upon himself the task of secularizing Buddha's original teachings, developing a philosophical, ethical, and contemplative vision of Buddhism more compatible with current times. Buddhism is to him an evolving culture of awakening that has been able to survive because of its ability to creatively interact with each society it encounters, reinventing itself in the process.
