THE SHROUDED SWORD is the story of two children, Ethan and Jynx Moseby, and their adventures while visiting their uncle. It's Christmas break, and once again Ethan's self-absorbed parents are dropping him and his sister off at another relative's house for the holidays while they jet off for an adults-only vacation. Ethan has pranked the kids at his former host's home, so his uncle Socrates's house is his parents' last resort. Socrates Maupin is no ordinary relative. He's actually the legendary wizard, Merlin, living under an alias in Virginia after fleeing England in search of a new world. The adventure begins when a mysterious voice and light from the mausoleum in the garden maze behind Socrates' house lures Ethan, his sister Jynx, and a local boy, Amos, into a magical world of riddles, ciphers, and a strange catechism. When they touch the ancient fresco in the mausoleum, they are transported back in time to William Kidd's pirate ship, then to an island, and finally stumbling upon Kidd's infamous treasure. Part of this treasure hoard is the legendary sword Excalibur.
