Marni Altaker-Mount's My First Day of School is a great starter book for any child experiencing school for the first time. Marni Altaker-Mount wrote this book while pursuing her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. After successfully completing her undergraduate studies, completing a Masters of Education, and teaching for eight years she realized there was a need to publish her book for both classroom and home use to help children cope with their first school experience. Through the use of vivid color illustrations by AmyBeth Quering, this book is not only verbally stimulating but also visually entertaining. My First Day of Schoolhas easy text for read-alouds with early reader attention to numbers and letters. This book is a great tool for early education. The theme, of course, is the first day of school. A usual view would be from a child's perspective; this book is from a teacher's perspective. The reader does not find this out until the end of the book, but it clearly shows the teacher and the children share the same routines and apprehensions about the first day of school. This is quite a lovely and educational book, which will reach children, parents, and teachers. This book will also be a useful motivational tool for children with a fear of their first day in a classroom setting.
