Beskrivelse

Unlike most books about Medical Malpractice or Medical Error, which are generally written by physicians or lawyers and are abstract in nature, this book is a Personal Account by the Author of how his wife fell victim to a Series of Medical Errors; as well as being a fully documented examination of the Medical Profession's propensity for Medical Errors using two Case Histories with access to the Medical Records of each. The second Case History is that of a woman from Wisconsin, who lost a baby in childbirth due to a series of Medical Errors and incompetent use of medical technology. Salient pages from these Medical Records are included in an extensive Appendix to the book. In addition, through examination of Clinical Studies and Professional Articles, the author describes how the Medical Profession hides Medical Errors that Kill and Disable millions of people every year in the U.S. alone; and, how physicians protect themselves, and are protected by their profession's culture, from being held responsible when a devastating Medical Error does come to light. The book is fully documented, using footnotes, by Clinical Studies, Professional Articles taken from Peer-Reviewed Medical Journals, Medical Textbooks, the entire Medical Records of the Case Histories and a Personal Account by the author himself. The author has created a very readable narrative which acts as a thread running throughout the book and pulling together the two case histories to illustrate an underlying culture within the Medical Profession that creates an environment ripe for Medical Error to propagate. He also offers to the reader various tools they can use to protect themselves from the propensity of Medical Professionals to make these errors that can cause death and disability. The author's wife, Dr. Cynthia Jean Jonet, was a Clinical Psychologist and member of the largest Private Psychiatric Practice in their city. The author has a Degree in Journalism from The University of Texas at Austin, and, after working in that profession for many years, took over the management of his wife's practice and continued in medical management until his wife became ill in 2015.
