Julio Cort?zar naci? en B?lgica, y acabada la Primera Guerra Mundial se traslad? con su familia a Buenos Aires. Gran seguidor de Jorge Luis Borges, Cort?zar se identific? desde muy pronto con la corriente del surrealismo. Realiz? estudios de Letras y de Magisterio y trabaj? como docente en varias ciudades argentinas, mientras publicaba cr?tica literaria, art?culos y relatos. En los a?os cuarenta fij? su residencia en Par?s, donde trabaj? como traductor en la UNESCO. En 1963 public? Rayuela, novela que conmocion? el panorama cultural y lo afianz? como uno de los autores m?s innovadores y originales de su tiempo. Maestro del relato corto y la prosa po?tica, de su obra destacan tambi?n sus miscel?neas, donde mezcla narrativa, cr?nica, poes?a y ensayo. En 1984 la Fundaci?n Konex le otorg? posmortem el Premio Konex de Honor por su aportaci?n a la historia de la literatura argentina. Julio Cort?zar was born in Belgium, and when the First World War ended, he moved with his family to Buenos Aires. A great admirer of Jorge Luis Borges, Cort?zar very early identified with the Surrealist movement. He studied Literature and education, and worked as a teacher in several cities in Argentina, while he published literary criticism, articles and short stories. In the 40s he settled in Paris, where he worked for UNESCO as a translator. In 1963, he published Rayuela, a novel which caused an upheaval in the cultural landscape and established him as one of the most innovative and original writers of his time. A master of the short story and poetic prose, his miscellanies, in which he mixes fiction, chronicle, poetry and essays are also important. In 1984 the Fundaci?n Konex awarded him the Premio Konex de Honor posthumously for his contribution to the history of Argentine literature.
