Sarah is a quiet, anxious girl born into an Orthodox Jewish home. Navigating a community where men have free reign and girls are not allowed to sing, Sarah muffles her every step, always observing and trying to mirror the behavior of those around her. But when Sarah's journey takes an ugly turn, she is left with a deeply ruptured faith and the eerie feeling that there is something wrong with her body. Sarah stumbles through the erotic frenzy of her young adulthood for the key to who she is supposed to become. She attempts to know herself through a flood of sexual relationships with a ragtag cast of characters and grapples with different ways to take the edge off of her growing paranoia that her body is somehow contaminated. Through these exploits Sarah's desires, habits, imaginings, and madnesses come to the fore as she tries to fuck and write her way to self-knowledge, often with unnerving results.
