Traditional Japanese martial arts comprise hakko-ryu, which emphasizes pressure points, striking, and hurling techniques. Early in the 20th century, Ryuho Okuyama established the organization. "Hakko-ryu" is an acronym that translates to "Eighth Light Style," alluding to the concept of employing techniques in eight distinct directions or dimensions.
Hakko-ryu integrates a diverse array of methodologies sourced from traditional Japanese martial arts such as jujutsu and aikijujutsu. However, its primary focus is on harnessing the energy and natural movements of the body in order to exert control and subdue adversaries. Frequently, strategies entail deflecting an adversary's force, employing leverage, and executing attacks with exact timing.
Hakko-ryu incorporates spiritual principles and elements of traditional Japanese philosophy in addition to physical techniques, with the dual objective of fostering mental discipline and harmony as well as physical prowess. Hakko-ryu training principally consists of controlled sparring, partner exercises, and forms (kata) designed to foster the development of self-defense capabilities and a more profound comprehension of martial principles.
