Attorney Denise Fairchuck loves solving puzzles and mysteries-the who, what, and why. Which is a good thing, because she has made a graveside promise to her good friend, Kaitlin Cosser, that she'd find out who pushed Kaitlin off a Nordstrom Department Store roof. Ever since their five-year reunion, their tight group of six high school best friends have been planning another reunion in New Orleans. But in the meantime, things aren't going well for the friends. Tragedy and deliberate lies between them fray and shatter their friendships, causing distrust and anger.
Denise is determined to find out who is responsible for the death of her friend, a crime that appears to be somehow tied to previous hit-and-run deaths. Could one of her friends be the main suspect for both crimes? After an awkward brush with the Seattle police, Denise learns they also suspect someone in the group, and she is asked for her help in their investigation. The long-awaited reunion takes place as planned regardless of their friendships' frayed edges, and things go fairly well. That is, until the last evening, when all hell breaks loose...
