Let's face it. Cupid is a rotten marksman. He shoots his little arrows haphazardly at the most unlikely people, for the most incredible reasons, and often with the most disastrous results. This book is a mixture of fact, fantasy, humor and the straight skinny -- an attempt to make sense of Cupid's mess by providing insights into some of the more ironic aspects of that core human emotion, romantic love -- especially (though not exclusively) as it affects single men and women over thirty years of age. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are 288 million people in the United States, 160 million of whom are over the age of thirty. And thirty percent of those are single. Ergo, there are 48 million single people over thirty milling about in the United States alone. Lord knows how many worldwide. This book is for all of them. It's an attempt to make sense of the fat baby's indiscriminate firing of wobbly arrows across the landscape. In short, this book is about the joys, ironies and confusions that intrude upon the lives of real people like us; the ones you and I know; the grown-ups who don't chug-a-lug their beer or groove on wet tee-shirt contests. Most of them have never seen the inside of a singles bar. If they have children, our people tend to be good fathers and mothers. They lead stable lives, shoulder responsibilities, and take care of themselves and their friends.
